From Global Capability Center to Second Headquarters

About the Company

Our customer, a family owned and operated business, has been an industry leader in offering expertly chosen power tools. Today, the company is truly a multi-channel retailer offering a wide selection of products — from consumer goods to industrial and construction equipment — to do-it-yourselfers, contractors and professional shops via catalog, internet, mobile and retail locations. Headquarted in Minnesota, the company has over 120 store locations across more than 20 states. The $1.6-bn worth company plans for doubling the revenue in the next 5 years.

Call for a Global Team

As the company generates 35% of their revenue through e-commerce, it was a key business imperative to provide seamless omnichannel experience to the customers throughout the pandemic. The company built a technology platform to deliver enhanced customer experience. Even before the platform was fully rolled out, the company realised a 40% growth in revenue and 300 points growth in gross margin rate. However, to maintain the growth momentum, they needed to further accelerate the tech transformation and double down on innovation. They knew this wouldn’t be possible without quickly setting up a global team to access diverse, differentiated talent.

Building a Partnership That Thrives

The company partnered with ANSR in 2021 to set up their Global Capability Center in India. Leveraging the Location Analysis by ANSR Workspace, they decided to set up the center in Hyderabad, owing to its vast talent pool, infrastructure and government incentives. ANSR’s proprietary and proven GCC Playbook for their specific requirements led to an accelerated and low risk establishment of the GCC. The company tapped into Talent500, ANSR’s 1M+ professional network to hire more than 60 members in less than one year. The GCC is rapidly growing to a team of 200 people in the next 18 to 24 months, who will play a pivotal role in the company’s business transformation agenda.

From GCC to Second Headquarters

The Hyderabad team started contributing to the technology platform within months of setting up the center. However, the GCC promptly began to replicate almost all the functions of the headquarters, including finance, information technology, human resources, marketing, and merchandising. The GCC continues to build out new capabilities in India including customer analytics, market insights, AI, and product engineering and design. In short, what started as a technology center has transformed into a second headquarters within the span of one year.

Highlight

“We would not have been able to hire the number of people we needed to deliver all of these initiatives just by hiring in the US alone. The partnership with ANSR, which has come together in a very short period of time, allowed us to start the Hyderabad office in less than eight months from start. We already have over 35 people in this office today and this office is pivotal for our future” – CEO
